Nadja Buttendorf traces the power relations between East and West in her YouTube series Robotron – a tech opera. Like many East German companies, the state-owned company Kombinat Robotron was no different and was bought up by the “Besserwessis” (know-it-all West Germans) after the German reunification. Buttendorf now brings WENDE-sequins to the people with the request “Please turn”, which they can sew onto their clothes. So you can decide whether you see yourself as an “Ossi” or a “Wessi”. If you take a global perspective – the WENDE-sequins were produced in China – we are all “Besserwessis”.
