“Der Kunstpreis junger westen” has been awarded by the city of Recklinghausen since 1948 as a funding prize for visual arts. It is reminiscent of the artist group “junger westen” founded in Recklinghausen in 1947. In 2023 the art prize is offered for sculpture and installation (Skulptur, Plastik und Installation).
The graphic motif is based on a sculpture by the art group and draws a link to the obligatory bouquet of flowers that is presented to the winner. We have generated a spring-like color world for the art prize competition in spring 2023. The promotion of the final exhibition, which took place at the end of the year, uses autumnal tones. The colors of the catalog are kept cool and wintery.
The focus of the catalog design is on the outstanding artistic positions of the exhibiting artists. Since many different artists are shown here, we have decided to place the work details prominently. The images are shown as large as possible. The typographic concept takes up the sound waves that the winner Mona Schulzek sends into space in her work. They become a graphic element that runs through the catalog. Due to the materiality and the thread knot stitching, the catalog itself becomes a small sculpture.
The following artists are part of the exhibitionn and catalog: Mona Schulzek (winner), Eliza Ballesteros, Noémi Barbaglia, Rebekka Benzenberg, Marta Dyachenko, Fabian Friese, Gerrit Frohne-Brinkmann, Isabella Fürnkäs, marc norbert hörler, Lucia Kempkes, Ju Young Kim, Clara Kulemeyer, Julia Miorin, Esper Postma, Moritz Riesenbeck, Miriam Schmitz, Tatjana Stürmer, caner teker, Tatjana Vall, Emil Walde, Denise Werth, Karla Zipfel
